About the Event

Launch your garden this Spring with some quality compost, that is.. FREE!

That’s right! We’re very happy & enthused to announce that our annual compost giveaway will happen again in 2022. This year is titled, the 3rd Annual Spring Garden Giveaway, since it's evolved into so much more than giving out compost.

The event will start at 9:00am on the Saturday morning of April 23rd. However, the event is first-come, first-served, so be prepared. It will end at noon. You should bring bags or buckets for your compost pick-up, or you can haul it in a lined truck bed or trailer (tarps always work well); it's totally up to you. We will provide supplies for compost shoveling, but if you’d like to bring your own, that would definitely help.

A few local organizations will be set up with informational booths, there will be seeds, some plants, and also the potential of garden supply exchange opportunities (depending on what people may bring).

Are you a veteran gardener with an old pair of gloves or a hand rake that you might want to donate to a gardener starting out? Or maybe you have an excess of nursery pots or containers? Think about gifting something at the event. We know there’s a wide variety of people that attend. Plus, sharing knowledge from one gardener to another is also a very valuable exchange. :)

We know at-home gardening is not only sustainable, but can be a fun and rewarding experience. So we hope you get the chance to launch a garden this spring, no matter how big or small!!!

But remember, don’t forget the compost! Compost is a mixture of ingredients used to fertilize and improve soil. It is commonly prepared by decomposing plant and food waste and recycling organic materials. The resulting mixture is rich in plant nutrients and beneficial organisms, and is excellent for growing fruits and vegetables!

The free compost at our event is top-quality and provided by Recology Humboldt County, coming from Recology's commercial composting facility in San Francisco and generated from their curbside composting customers in the city.

Rain or Shine. See you on April 23rd. Happy Gardening!

We’re proud of the partnership that is making this all possible.
